Additionally, individuals in the older generation experience a phenomenon where the nerve and muscle unit does not turn off as efficiently.  Consequently, muscles continue to hold in a tight fashion and do not release their muscle tension appropriately.  This elongated and inappropriate muscle firing further deteriorates balance abilities since the muscles cannot let go of the tension and respond to a changing balance environment.  Again, the consequence of increased tension in the muscle and the inability to relax a muscle appropriately leads to poor balance and a greater risk for falling.  Consequently, all individuals over the age of 60 need to practice senior balance exercises on a daily basis to overcome the effects of aging and minimize the potential for a debilitating fall.
