Balance Exercises- Watch Your Step

Balance Exercises And Visual Input

Balance exercises can be helpful to reduce the risk and frequency of falling not only for seniors over the age of 60 who are statistically expected to fall at a rate of one and every three older adults. Additionally, balance exercises can also be beneficial to assist athletes at all level of performance to decrease their incidents of falling during their sport. One critical balance technique employed in balance exercises is to use visual input to enhance balance abilities and reduce the rate of falling. For instance, during the balance exercises of standing on one foot, it is easier to balance with eyes open and fixed on one object. The best visual input during balance exercises is to look at your feet, which combines visual input with sensory feedback of this sense of touch between your feet and the floor. Balance Exercises Watch Your Step

These balance exercises and balance techniques have been wonderfully displayed during the Olympic gymnastics events. As you watch the men and women gymnasts perform their routines, you can observe their extreme efforts to keep their eyes on the apparatus for as long as possible while they jump, twist, flip and somersault through their routines. Each gymnast has spent hours working on balance activities and balance exercises throughout the years. Now as they perform their routines at the highest level of athletic competition it is evident that they watch their step as much as possible to maximize visual input to maintain balance and such extremely challenging movements.

Balance Exercises For The Whole Family

Balance Exercises And Family Fun

Balance exercises can be fun and beneficial for people of all ages. Obviously, older adults need to practice balance exercises everyday to improve balance and to diminish the risk and frequency of falling. See http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Balance exercises can also be helpful and advantageous for kids, youths, and young adults. All toddlers need to practice standing and maintaining their center balance point under their feet. Similarly, older adults also need to practice centering their weight within their feet to learn to maintain stability in various standing situations. For fun, toddlers and grandparents can perform those balance exercises together. Additionally, young athletes can practice balance routines to advance their sports activities like gymnastics and karate. Aging adults can perform balance exercises with their budding young athletes like walking heel to toe along a line to develop balance abilities for maneuvering in tight spaces for the adults and for maximizing athletic performance for the kids.

Balance Exercises Done Together

Balance exercises are more fun when they are practiced as a family. For most families, a jovial rivalry can take place to motivate and encourage each participant to reach their greatest potential with balance abilities. Shanna Houston recently published a great article, "8 Fun Ways to Get Your Kids to Exercise” describing other fun ways to exercise as a family. Balance Exercises And Evaluating Balance Abilities

Balance Exercises And Determining Balance Skills

Balance exercises are essential to perform daily for those folks in their later years. Sometimes, however, knowing one's balance skills and balance abilities can be helpful to adjust the level of difficulty for balance exercises. See http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now When starting balance exercises, it is important to not begin at a level that is too difficult, both to reduce the risk of falling during the balance exercises routine and also to minimize any frustration that overly demanding balance exercises might create. With balance exercises there can be quiet a learning curve and improvement takes time as the body -brain connection develops and as the ankle balance reactions improve.

Balance Exercises And Evaluating Balance Abilities

Balance exercises and balance training should start at the right level for each individual. Recently, researchers have investigated balance exercises and balance abilities in their medical studies. Huo H.-F., Lin J.-L., Zhao L. and Zhao H.-B. in their study, Characteristics and evaluation of balance ability in the elderly looked at balance exercises and evaluation techniques. Background: Balance ability is one of the important human physiological functions and plays a crucial role in the human life. Moreover, the decrease of balance ability in elderly people can affect the independent living capacity of elderly people, result in the fall-downs and induce other diseases. Findings: With the increasing age, balance ability is closely related to the systemic functions of human, including vestibular system, visual system, somatic sensation, nervous system and muscle-skeletal system, thus the factors leading to the age-added changes of balance ability need to be solved. Additionally, Balance tests are the premise of the quantitative evaluation on balance ability, providing a safe, convenient and comprehensive testing method.

BALANCE EXERCISES And Rehabilitation For Parkinson's

Balance Exercises And Rehabilitation Improves Symptoms In Parkinson's Patients

Balance exercises can help improve the symptoms of dyskinesias in Parkinson's patients. See http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Balance exercises are effective for individuals who suffer with various medical and neurological conditions including diabetes, cancer, scoliosis, and Parkinson's to name a few. Those with Parkinson's often struggle with postural issues. Balance exercises can help them use their center balance point to stand more erect and maintain an upright posture, thereby reducing the risk of falling. Additionally, Parkinson's patients frequently have problems with dyskinesias ( involuntary, sudden, uncontrollable, often jerky or writhing movements), which can lead to balance problems and falling. Balance exercises are an important component of daily exercise for those with Parkinson's.

Balance Exercises Help Parkinson's Patients Dyskinesia

Balance exercises for Parkinson's patients have recently been studied to investigate the effectiveness and practical outcomes. Frazzitta G, Bertotti G, in their study, Rehabilitation improves dyskinesias in Parkinsonian patients, evaluated balance exercises and effects on dyskinesia in those with Parkinson's. The present study was devised: (a) to test whether an intensive (60 hours in 4 weeks) multidisciplinary rehabilitation treatment (involving physiotherapy, exercises to improve gait and balance using treadmill and stabilometric platform, occupational therapy) for Parkinsonian patients is effective in improving dyskinesia and motor performance compared to a control group undergoing a non-intensive non multidisciplinary rehabilitation treatment (30 hours in 4 weeks involving physiotherapy only. Results: All outcome measurements improved in both groups of patients, but patients in the intensive exercise group presented better results. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that a rehabilitation protocol, including balance exercises, should be considered as a valid non-invasive therapeutic support for patients who show dyskinesias and that there are better results when the treatment is intensive.

Balance Exercises- Just PAy Attention

Balance Exercises- Just Pay Attention

Balance exercises have been found to be very helpful to reduce the frequency and risk of falling for those over 60 years old. Please see, http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now These days statistics show that one in three seniors fall, which translates to 20 million Americans every year. Furthermore, researchers have concluded that at least 7 million older adults struggle with balance problems each year. Thankfully, balance exercises can be very beneficial to not only improve balance but also decrease falling.

Balance Exercises And Balance Techniques

Balance exercises performed on a daily basis help to develop a brain- body connection that is necessary for better balance. There are some simple balance techniques that can be applied to balance exercises which will help to improve your balance and equilibrium right off the bat. One way to remember this simple balance technique is to remind yourself to "just pay attention". Often times, falls are a result of not paying attention to where our feet are, as we trip on a carpet or throw rug. Additionally, we don't pay attention to the dog toy or tennis shoes on the floor, which can trip us up and cause a fall. To counteract those situations, you can perform standing and walking activities while thinking about your feet touching the floor, which provides sensory feedback to the brain and enhances the brain-body connection. After you concentrate on the sense of touch from your feet and the floor, that sensory feedback becomes stronger, allowing you to not have to focus on your feet as much unless you are in a challenging situation.

Research Results On Balance Exercises And Balance Training

The effectiveness of balance exercises and balance training is a critical interest these days as the population ages. Please see
http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now As time goes on, more and more research comes out about the benefits of doing balance training and balance exercises with aging adults. For example, Badke M.B. recently published a research study that showed Outcomes after Rehabilitation for Adults with Balance Dysfunction. The established goal was to assess balance, dynamic gait, and dynamic visual acuity outcomes after a vestibular and balance rehabilitation program, including balance training, and to determine which variables were significantly associated with improved balance, decreased falls and ambulation.

Positive Aspects of Balance Exercises And BalanceTraining

Overall, balance exercises and balance training have a beneficial effect. The good news is that the researchers found significantly positive effects of balance training and balance exercises. The study results explained that individuals exhibited functional improvements in balance, visual acuity, and gait stability after balance and vestibular physical therapy.
Now there is an effective tool to reproduce those results of improved balance at home......

Balance Exercises- Beginner Exercise Routine

Balance Exercises Daily Routine

Balance exercises are important to practice on a daily basis. For anyone over the age of 60, it is vital to formulate a consistent routine of practicing balance exercises every day. Many times, the thought of habits and routines carry a negative connotation. Throughout our lives, we are instructed to break habits like smoking. Only infrequently, we are encouraged to build good habits like practicing balance exercises as part of our daily routine. http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now The best place to start with a balance exercise routine is at the beginning, with basic balance techniques and basic balance exercises.

Motivation For A Daily Balance Exercises Routine

Balance exercises can sometimes require positive motivation to continue through the early phase of balance training, which is often frustrating and difficult. Early on, balance abilities can be rapidly improved by using the basic balance technique of using the sense of touch between your feet and the floor to become grounded and more stable. Balance exercises need to be practiced every day in order to formulate the connection between the brain and the body to improve balance and reduce the risk of falling. Statistics tell us that 1 in 3 seniors fall every year resulting in major injuries, like hip and wrist fractures. More and more seniors are mindful that balance exercises need to be a part of their daily routine. If balance exercises are only performed once in a blue moon, the brain does not have the opportunity to build good connections for receiving sensory input from the ankles as well as returning specific output to the leg muscles to improve balance and stability with all activities.

Balance Exercises And Visual Loss

Balance Exercises And Vision Loss

Balance exercises are critical to perform as we get older. See http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now For those over 60 years old, you understand that many aspects of the body change with aging. On most days, it is hard to get out of bed because of stiffness and some arthritic pain. Often times, fatigue with activity sets in earlier and earlier. before we know it, we have bouts with balance problems. Most every day, we are looking for our glasses, can't find our glasses or reading with our glasses to just order or cook a meal. Changes in vision directly affect balance abilities. Our brains use vision as the primary sense for balance. When our vision fails, our balance diminishes and the risk of falling increases. Balance exercises are the best way to combat falling secondary to loss of vision.

Balance Exercises And Visual Changes

Balance exercises are important to perform each day when it comes to that time when our eyesight begins to diminish. Researchers have looked at the impact of balance exercises and visual changes. Eichenbaum JW. in the study, Geriatric vision loss due to cataracts, macular degeneration, and glaucoma, investigated the correlation of loss of vision, balance exercises and activity level changes in the elderly. "The major causes of impaired vision in the elderly population of the United States are cataracts, macular degeneration, and open-angle glaucoma. Cataracts and macular degeneration usually reduce central vision, especially reading and near activities, whereas chronic glaucoma characteristically attacks peripheral vision in a silent way, impacting balance, walking, and driving. Untreated, these visual problems lead to issues with regard to taking medications, keeping track of finances and personal information, walking, watching television, and attending the theater, and often create social isolation. Thus, visually impaired individuals enter nursing homes 3 years earlier, have twice the risk of falling, and have 4× the risk of hip fracture. Consequently, many elderly with low vision exercise greater demands on community services. With the prospect of little improvement and sustained visual loss, in the face of poor tolerance of low-vision services and not accepting magnification as the only way to read, clinical depression is common. In many instances, however, early and accurate diagnosis can result in timely treatment and can preserve quality of life." As you can see, visual loss is impacting seniors at high rates, thereby heightening balance problems and creating a greater need for balance exercises to prevent falls and the debilitating injuries from falling.

Balance Exercises And Balance Disorders In The Elderly

Balance Exercises For The Elderly

Balance exercises are an essential component of daily life for those in their later years. See http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Balance exercises are beneficial to help prevent the risk and incidence of falls in the elderly. Unfortunately, falling has become far too common among older adults. Statistics reveal that one in three seniors fall every year, with debilitating injuries. Thankfully, falling does not have to be a reality for all older adults. Balance exercises have been proven to reduce the frequency of falling.

Balance Exercises Help Elderly Individuals

Balance exercises and balance disorders have been recently evaluated by medical professionals to establish their effectiveness. Lin HW, Bhattacharyya N. in their report, Balance disorders in the elderly: Epidemiology and functional impact, looked at balance exercises, balance training and balance disorders. Their goal was to quantify the prevalence and determine the impact of dizziness and balance disorders in the elderly. In their study, the prevalence of balance disorders and associated symptoms and their impacts on self-reported functional limitations were determined. The related impact on daily activities for elderly persons with balance problems was quantified. Their results were very interested and showed that among 37.3 ± 0.9 million elderly persons (mean age, 74.4 ± 0.1 years; 56.9% ± 0.9% female), 7.0 ± 0.2 million persons (19.6% ± 0.7%) reported a problem with dizziness or balance in the preceding 12 months. Balance problems included difficulty with unsteadiness (68.0%), walking on uneven surfaces (54.8%), vertigo (30.1%), and faintness (29.6%). Prescription medication triggered the balance problem in 18.7%. Among the 50.0% of elderly persons with balance problems who sought care, 85.6%, 30.3%, 23.9%, and 16.8% saw a general practitioner, internist, neurologist, or otolaryngologist, respectively. Of this group, 27.4% reported that balance problems specifically prevented them from participating in activities including exercise (61.2%), social events (45.8%), and driving (47.1%). Females were more likely to experience balance problems than males (21.0% vs. 17.7%, P = .025). They concluded that approximately one in five elderly persons experiences annual problems with dizziness or balance. Given the significant prevalence and negative effect of balance problems on daily activities in the elderly, balance disorders merit special attention, particularly in the face of an aging population. The best solution for fighting balance problems is balance exercises.

Balance Exercises For Increased Physical Activity

Balance exercises are beneficial to older adults for many reasons. See http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Balance exercises are an important component to sustain active living and social interaction for those over the age of 60 years old. Balance exercises have been proven to reduce the frequency and incidence of falling, which results in devastating injuries and lifestyle changes. Balance exercises and balance training can be incorporated throughout the day to maintain activity levels and continue the mantra: "motion is lotion".

Balance Exercises Keep Up Activity Levels

Balance exercises and activity levels have been studied by medical professionals to determine the effectiveness for aging adults. Snyder A, Colvin B, Gammack JK. in their study, Pedometer use increases daily steps and functional status in older adults, looked at balance exercises, balance training and activity levels. The benefits of increased physical activity in adults of any age are many. It is hypothesized that wearing a pedometer can motivate older adults to increase and sustain a higher level of ambulatory activity and improve measures of functional status, including balance. Their results showed that the average number of daily steps increased from 2992 to 3670 over a 4-week period. They concluded that Pedometers are a successful motivational tool to increase ambulatory activity in older adults with a secondary benefit in functional status measures.

Balance Exercises:Never Give Up

Balance Exercises: Never, Never, Never Give Up

For those folks starting a balance exercise program, the words of Winston Churchill, “Never, Never, Never Give Up” can be of some encouragement. Balance exercises can be difficult at the onset. When first attempting balance exercises, you often find significant difficulty. One balance technique that rapidly enhances balance skills is to find your center balance point within your body and use it as an anchor point for your brain. By using the center balance point, the brain and body can connect and maximize balance abilities. See http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now

Beginning Balance Exercises

Balance exercises can quickly improve with understanding certain balance techniques. Another important balance technique is to use the sense of touch between your feet and the floor. The brain uses three inputs to help with balance: Our vision, our vestibular system and our sensory input through our feet. By concentrating on the sense of touch between our feet and the floor, our balance abilities are improved significantly. Balance Exercises Help Postural Control In Those With Osteoporosis

Balance exercises have been found to be beneficial for those individuals who struggle with posture issues secondary to osteoporosis. See http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Balance exercises can help to improve the forward bent posture that comes with changes in the spine secondary to osteoporosis. Unfortunately, osteoporosis afflicts a large percentage of women over the age of 60 years old. During that time frame, balance problems can also increase in seniors. When a person adopts a forward leaning posture from osteoporosis, that position throws off their balance, making them more apt to fall forwards.

Balance Exercises And Posture For Osteoporotic Women

Balance exercises have been recently evaluated for women in their later years who suffer with posture issues and balance problems related to osteoporosis. Burke TN, Franca FJ, in their study, Postural control in elderly women with osteoporosis: comparison of balance, strengthening and stretching exercises, looked at balance exercises posture and osteoporosis. Their study was designed to compare the efficacy of balance training associated with muscle strengthening or stretching, relative to no intervention, in the postural control of elderly women with osteoporosis. Their results showed that the balance exercises and strengthening exercises improved postural control when compared to the control group.

Balance exercises and balance training enhance balance abilities of those with Diabetes and others who struggle with numbness in their feet. Balance exercises are critical to perform after a total hip or total knee surgery to get back to walking without falling. Balance exercises can also benefit people with COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease COPD). Lets face it, COPD is an awful ailment. COPD not only robs you of your breath, but it also steals your energy and activity level and basic quality of life.

Balance Exercises And COPD

Balance exercises and balance abilities have recently been studied in the population of those with COPD. In their investigation, Ozalevli S, Ilgin D looked at COPD and balance exercises: Association between disease-related factors and balance and falls among the elderly with COPD. Their intent was to investigate the relationship between disease-related factors and balance, and a history of falls in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. According to our results, hypoxemia, dyspnea and fatigue are disease- related factors, which are related with balance impairment and falls in COPD patients. For this reason, we suggest that assessment of balance, balance exercises and training to improve balance impairment among the elderly with COPD should be a component of pulmonary rehabilitation programs in clinical practice.

Balance Exercises For Gait Velocity In Seniors

Balance exercises are like a multi vitamin for aging adults. See http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Balance exercises should be performed every day for numerous benefits such as to help improve balance reactions, to develop balance skills for maneuvering in tight spaces, to enhance leg strength and to elevate ankle mobility. One important beneficial effect of balance exercises is enhancing balance abilities during walking, including improving gait speed.

Balance Exercises For Gait Speed

Balance exercises are one of the best ways to increase the necessary gait speed for older adults. As we age, the velocity of walking diminishes, which in turn results in decreased balance and a greater number of falls. When seniors walk too slowly, they lose the benefit of momentum that helps to keep their center of gravity moving forward smoothly. Consequently, walking too slowly leads to being more off-balance and a higher incidence of falling. Medical studies have been conducted to review the gait speeds in aging adults. Montero-Odasso M, Schapira M, published a study, Gait velocity in senior people. An easy test for detecting mobility impairment in community elderly that evaluated different tests for gait velocity. Their results show that Only 15% of the subjects with normal gait velocity reported recurrent falls in the previous 6 months while 35% of subjects with pathological gait velocity did. Balance exercises can help improve gait velocity and therefore decrease the frequency of falling.

Balance Exercises Improve The Game Of Bowling

Balance exercises can improve the stability and mobility aspects needed in bowling. At the onset of the swing phase in bowling, the individual must maintain steady balance which can be developed through specific balance exercises. One such balance exercise includes standing with your feet shoulder width apart and centering your body’s balance point through midline. Balance exercises and balance training therefore helps to improve static balance abilities. Additionally, during the swing phase and follow through in bowling, the individual requires the ability to balance during that dynamic movement. Balance exercises such as standing on one leg and moving to the opposite leg through an arc or standing on one leg during a lunge sequence can help to advance dynamic balance abilities. By practicing these balance exercises on a daily basis, you can improve both static and dynamic balance skills necessary for a great game of bowling or to live a safe and active life.
