What Is Balance?

The fancy definition of Balance is the ability to maintain the body's center of mass over its base of support. What that really means is that we can keep our body upright over our feet without falling. The balance problems we see as we age include the inability to control our center of gravity within our base of support. That means that as we age, we become more unstable at our ankles, causing us to lose our balance and fall.

TAKING BALANCE FOR GRANTED...

Many times we take our balance for granted. We think nothing of walking across a gravel driveway or stepping off a curb to get into the car. However, when we have balance problems, even those small tasks take a lot of energy, concentration and can increase our fear of falling. I want to encourage you that if you struggle with your balance, research has shown that performing daily exercises can improve your balance, reduce your risk of falling and decrease your fear of falling.

WHAT’S THE BIG DEAL ABOUT BALANCE?

WHAT’S THE BIG DEAL ABOUT BALANCE?
Whether you are
-a high level athlete skiing the black diamonds
-a desk jockey working out at Gold’s Gym after clocking out
-a senior trying to run safely after the grand kids
WE ALL NEED BALANCE!!!
Having good static and dynamic balance is the key to completing the course, getting the most out of our core exercises at the gym and preventing falls as we age. These days, more and more professional athletes are adding balance and core exercises into their workout program. Also, as we age our balance components become compromised and need specific exercises to maximize their function. Statistics show that 1 in 3 seniors, about 20 million, fall every year, resulting in complications of hip or wrist fractures or other injuries.  Ninety-two percent of emergency room visits come from injuries related to falling.  Additionally, with the upcoming health care reforms, we are heading into times where we will all have to be more self-sufficient and preventative with our health needs. Thankfully, research has proved that balance exercises performed on a daily basis can improve both balance and strength as well as reduce falls. The EXERCISE FOR BALANCE DVD is the perfect tool to help all of us stay on our feet, maximize our sports performance and enjoy many more active years.
The Balance For Exercise DVD includes instruction from a physical therapist on how to balance and which balance and strength exercises to perform .  The DVD and exercise sheet that is included is easy to use.
