Balance Exercises For An Ankle Sprain
Balance exercises are important following an ankle sprain. Usually with an ankle sprain the ligaments are disrupted to varying degrees which affect the balance abilities of the individual. Sensory feedback from the ankles is one of the three essential components of the balance system. After an ankle injury, it is vital to practice specific balance exercises to restore the balance abilities before returning to sports or other activities.Balance Exercises Post Ankle Sprain
Balance exercises and ankle sprains have recently been studied to see their correlation. Akbari M., Karimi H., Farahini H. and Faghihzadeh S. looked at balance abilities and ankle sprains in their study, Balance problems after unilateral lateral ankle sprains. Ankle ligament injury is the most common injury in athletic activities. This study examined balance problems in athletes with acute lateral ankle sprains. The results showed that balance ability in patients with acute lateral ankle sprain was significantly weaker under closed- versus open-eye conditions. We can conclude that balance problems occur after acute ankle sprains because of proprioception (sensory) deficits and that the unconscious (reflexive) aspect of proprioception is more severely affected than the conscious (voluntary) aspect.WATCH A SHORT VIDEO ON BALANCE EXERCISES: balance exercise equipment
