For instance, I am heading up on a ladder this afternoon to hang lights along the roof line. Before I venture off the ground, I will strategize on how to keep my weight centered while standing on the little ladder rungs and how to control shifting my body weight as I step higher and higher. One of the most challenging moments will be leaning forwards on the ladder to hang up each light. There is always a humorous story at Christmas time of someone losing their balance while reaching up to place an ornament in the perfect spot and falling into the tree, knocking it over and spilling all the decorations. One of my favorite scenes in the movie Elf is when Will Farrell takes a flying leap into the tree to put the star on the top. As you can imagine, everything comes crashing down. Consequently, Will and all the rest of us would be advised to learn some balance techniques and practice steadiness exercises before approaching the Christmas tree.
