Balance exercises are important to practice every day in addition to strengthening and stretching exercises. As we grow older, we need to partake in a comprehensive exercise routine that includes stability exercises, strengthening exercises and stretches. Please see  http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Stretching the calf muscles and hip muscles, especially the Hamstring muscles, are critically important to maintain good flexibility and good balance reactions at the ankles. recently, medical researchers have detailed the essential nature of performing lower extremity stretches for older adults.

Balance Exercises And Stretches For older Adults

Healthcare professionals and medical researchers are proponents of both balance exercises and stretching routines. Cory L. Christiansen, PT, PhD in his report,  The Effects of Hip and Ankle Stretching on Gait Function of Older People, looked at the importance of stretching and exercises for seniors. He set out to examine effects of hip and ankle stretching on gait function of older people. he  found that Compared with the control group, the intervention group had increased combined hip and knee motion (P=.023), ankle motion (P=.020), and freely chosen gait speed (P=.016). The intervention group showed statistically nonsignificant trends of increased stride length at freely chosen gait speed and set gait speed. He concluded that joint motion is a modifiable impairment that is effectively targeted with flexibility training for older people. Participants in the intervention group had improvements in joint motion as well as increased freely chosen gait speed. As a result, older individuals with increased joint mobility at the hips and ankles were able to perform a more steady gait as well as react appropriately to uneven surfaces like grass and hiking trails. those seniors, therefore, had a reduced risk of falling.
