In a recent medical study, researchers have looked at Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain, the rate of falling and balance exercises. Leveille SG, Jones RN, Kiely DK, in their report, Chronic musculoskeletal pain and the occurrence of falls in an older population, detailed the effects of balance routines and fall reduction for those with chronic pain.  The researchers found that the greatest risk for falls was observed in persons who had 2 or more pain sites. They concluded Chronic pain measured according to number of locations, severity, or pain interference with daily activities was associated with greater risk of falls in older adults. As we see in this study, chronic pain can lead to more falls. Thankfully, stability exercises can reduce the frequency of falling and prevent additional painful injuries.
