Promote Physical Activity With Balance Exercises

One of the first steps towards increasing daily activity is to perform balance exercises to enhance stability and prepare for beginning a fitness program. Please see     http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Since according to medical professionals "SITTING is the new SMOKING, " it is essential to have adequate balance before engaging in a physical fitness program. Medical researchers throughout  the United States, are starting to amass a  robust body of clinical research that supports the public-health message that being sedentary by, say, parking your duff at the cube for an honest day’s wage, is failing our long-term health.  Some researchers are concluding that sitting eight hours daily can shave years off your life. Like smoking, cardiovascular experts say, the decision to sit is our own. It’s preventable. It’s deliberate. We can quit it. Furthermore, researchers say brain function slows as we sit for longer periods, making our thought processes a little fuzzier. Without the added blood flow, oxygen and beneficial mood-enhancing chemicals that movement brings, our bulbs burn a little dimmer. A study published earlier this year in the Journal of Physical Activity & Health said sedentary behavior could increase the odds that, after age 60, we’ll face a 46 percent greater probability of suffering some level of disability in performing ordinary daily skills such as feeding ourselves and moving around without mishap. That could hinder efforts to stay independent. Additionally, sitting too long may coax the pancreas to produce too much insulin, leading to higher risks of diabetes. In addition,  that excess insulin may just turn out to be a cancer cell’s best friend, allowing for more cell growth. A sedentary lifestyle also leads to general weakness and imbalance, leading to a higher risk for falling. Conversely, getting up and exercising rigorously boosts our natural antioxidants that kill cell-damaging free radicals leading to specific cancers, such as endometrial, breast and colon carsinomas, said Dr. Daniel Parker.

Balance Exercises To Increase Activity Levels

The first step towards overcoming a sedentary lifestyle is to start with balance exercises to develop substantial steadiness for any type of fitness program. You can start with single leg standing exercises ( standing on one foot for twenty seconds, three times in a row), which are one of the basic components of walking. You can progress to walking along a line, heel to toe. In this tandem stance position, you will challenge your balance reactions at your ankles and prepare you for walking outdoors on uneven surfaces like grass and trails. You can learn these balance exercises and other stability techniques by following the direction of a knowledgeable Physical Therapist in the Exercise For Balance DVD.
