Put Senior Balance Exercises To Music

Motivating older individuals to exercise can sometimes be a challenge and putting music to senior balance exercises is one way to improve their enjoyment and effectiveness. Please see     http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now The folks who are in their sixties, seventies and eighties have shown us that they love music and they love to dance. Medical researchers have completed studies that prove the effectiveness of adding music to stability routines. Melany Hars, et all in their research study, Effect of music-based multitask training on cognition and mood in older adults, looked at the beneficial outcomes in stability, fitness, mood and cognition for those senior citizens who participated in programs that included exercise and music. In their study, 134 community-dwellers aged ≥65 years at increased risk for falling were randomly assigned to either an intervention group (n = 66) who attended once weekly 1-h supervised group classes of multitask exercises, executed to the rhythm of piano music, or a control group with delayed intervention (n = 68) who maintained usual lifestyle habits, for 6 months. The researchers determined that six months of once weekly music-based multitask training was associated with improved stability, cognitive function and decreased anxiety in community-dwelling older adults, compared with non-exercising controls.

Combine Music With Senior Balance Exercises

For those in the older population, adding music to senior balance exercises can make their fitness programs fun and beneficial. Music adds a component of mood elevation, release of positive neurotransmitters in the brain and enhancement of overall energy levels and quality of life. Music can be combined with certain steadiness routines to advance balance abilities and reduce the possibility of a fall. As an example, you can add your favorite music to a simple routine of stepping forwards, stepping backwards, stepping sideways and in a circle to the rhythm of the music. By adding music, you will challenge your balance and coordination, weight shifting skills and sensory feedback from the feet to the balance center in the brain. Additionally, practicing equilibrium exercises to music can have an added benefit of improving cardiovascular fitness and overall general health.
