Dizziness From Computer Work And Balance Exercises

Balance Exercises Help Reduce Dizziness

By Suzanne Stoke, Physical Therapist @ Exercise For Balance via www.exerciseforbalance.com
Many individuals have symptoms of lightheadedness or dizziness when gazing at a computer screen, which can be alleviated with balance exercises . Please see  http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now With the increase of time spent on computer screens and with the ever decreasing size of computer screens, many more people are experiencing symptoms of lightheadedness and dizziness. Medical researchers like Gillilan and Todd described a person for whom visual training was used to ameliorate the symptoms of motion sickness-- like nausea, dizziness and lightheadedness, which was visually induced by gazing at a computer terminal. For example, they followed a patient who was a 33-year-old woman who complained of dizziness, headaches, and nausea when working at her computer and of mild car sickness, which became severe if she attempted to read. She did specific balance exercises and eye motility exercises, which included visually tracking a ball in all directions, 30 minutes daily for 17 days. Initially, she performed the exercises with her head stationary, but the exercises were later modified to include rotation and lateral flexion head movements as symptoms decreased. Furthermore, an exercise program can be more effective by beginning the routine in a stable position like sitting and progressed to a more challenging stability position like standing. Although the patient reported nausea and eye fatigue during the first week of exercises, these symptoms disappeared by the end of the 3-week treatment. She was able to return to work at the computer and no longer had car sickness. On follow-up 2 years after treatment, she had no nausea, dizziness or motion sickness symptoms.

Balance Exercises For Computer Workers

People who work many hours looking at a computer screen often experience symptoms of lightheadedness, nausea and dizziness that can be diminished with balance exercises. Medical researchers have proven the connection between input from the eyes and from the sense of touch from the feet into the balance system of the brain that effects whether we experience symptoms of nausea, dizziness or motion sickness. Consequently, individuals who undergo dizziness and nausea when looking at a computer screen for a long time, can reduce their symptoms by strengthening their balance system through practicing a series of eye exercises and balance exercises. Now, you can perform appropriate balance exercises in the comfort of your own home by following the direction of an experienced Physical Therapist in the Exercise For Balance DVD.

Functional Activities That Need Senior Balance Exercises

Senior Balance Exercises Help Make Home Activities Safe

By Suzanne Stoke, Physical Therapist @ Exercise For Balance via www.exerciseforbalance.com
Staying safe at home is an essential priority for older individuals and practicing senior balance  exercises can help with fall prevention during normal activities at home. Please see   http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now  Healthcare professionals have tracked statistics that have shown that senior citizens most often fall at home. Falls in the home environment generally occur as a result of tripping on throw rugs or on items on the floor like shoes, magazines, clothes, or dog toys. Additionally, older individuals commonly fall on the stairs. Furthermore, falls can happen in tight spaces like turning or bending in the bathroom or kitchen. Unfortunately, we have all heard many stories about aging individuals who have fallen at home, sustained an injury like a hip fracture and struggle to get initial medical attention. Falls and injuries from falls can lead to a cascade of troubles. As an example, with a hip fracture due to a slip and fall, geriatric individuals  usually experience a trip to the emergency room for x-rays, a visit with a doctor, hip replacement surgery and follow up stays in the hospital and an assisted living facility. Furthermore, upon returning home after a surgical procedure from a fall there are enormous challenges to every day functional activities like getting dressed, cooking a meal, cleaning the house and just getting around. Because the loss of independence and quality of life can be so significant after a fall, the best remedy is to avoid falling in the first place. Medical researchers have proven that rehearsing senior balance exercises on a regular basis can enhance stability and reduce the potential of a fall.

A Daily Dose Of Senior Balance Exercises Improves Stability

To stay safe at home and avoid a possible fall, the best avenue to take is to practice senior balance exercises on a regular basis to maximize balance skills and minimize the risk of falling. One basic equilibrium routine that will help you be secure in small spaces like moving in the kitchen or bathroom involves learning to control your body weight shifting. The optimal way to practice weight shifting is to stand with your feet shoulder width apart and lean slowly forwards and backwards. Next, you can control your weight moving side to side. You can progress this exercise by standing on a soft surface like thick carpet, grass or a couch cushion. You can perform these stability techniques and senior balance exercises by following the instruction of a knowledgeable Physical Therapist in the Exercise For Balance DVD.

Senior Athletes Promote Senior Balance Exercises

Fitness Programs Should Include Senior Balance Exercises

By Suzanne Stoke, Physical Therapist @ Exercise For Balance via www.exerciseforbalance.comready for balance exercises
To stay active and healthy, senior athletes are showing us the way to develop a comprehensive fitness program that includes senior balance exercises. Please see   http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Over the years, healthcare professionals like doctors, nurses and physical therapists have  assumed that aging causes an inevitable deterioration of the body and its ability to function, as well as increased rates of related injuries such as sprains, strains and fractures; diseases, such as obesity and diabetes; and osteoarthritis and other bone and joint conditions. However, recent research on senior, elite athletes suggests usage of comprehensive fitness and nutrition routines helps minimize bone and joint health decline and maintain overall physical health. “An increasing amount of evidence demonstrates that we can modulate age-related decline in the musculoskeletal system,” said lead study author and orthopaedic surgeon Bryan G. Vopat, MD. “A lot of the deterioration we see with aging can be attributed to a more sedentary lifestyle instead of aging itself.” The positive effects of physical activity on maintaining bone density, muscle mass, ligament and tendon function, and cartilage volume are keys to optimal physical function and health. In addition, the literature recommends a combined physical activity regimen for all adults encompassing resistance, endurance, flexibility and balance training.

Begin A Fitness Regime With Senior Balance Exercises

Before initiating a comprehensive fitness program, it is essential to practice certain senior balance exercises to establish adequate stability for additional workout procedures. Even elite senior athletes who compete in tennis and golf tournaments, bike and running races, skiing events and more realize that stability exercises are a vital part of their preparation for their sport. As an example, high level golfers rehearse specific equilibrium exercises that are designed to maximize their balance skills in controlling the weight shifting of their body. When teeing off, the golfer must slowly and in a controlled manner shift his weight from one foot to the other for a smooth golf swing. Practicing a weight shifting equilibrium routines where you deliberately shift your body weight forwards and backwards and side to side will enable you to have an optimal golf swing. you can learn how to appropriately control your body weight and other senior balance exercises by participating in a daily balance routine with the Exercise For Balance DVD.

Land Based Senior Balance Exercises For Osteoarthritis

Land Based Senior Balance ExercisesMuscle Atrophy And Senior Balance Exercises

By Suzanne Stoke, Physical Therapist @ Exercise For Balance via www.exerciseforbalance.com
Starting a fitness program can be a bit daunting for older adults, but most medical professionals recommend beginning with senior balance exercises to develop adequate stability first. Please see  http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Consistently participating in a physical activity regime is essential to maintain good health in later years. Many senior citizens experience changes in their muscles and joints as they age, such as osteoarthritis and general muscle weakness. These changes can lead to leg muscle weakness, immobility, imbalance and a lower quality of life. That is why medical professionals like occupational therapists, physical therapists, doctors and nurses suggest that older individuals perform equilibrium routines before starting an exercise program. Additionally, in regards to the common effects of joint stiffness and pain  secondary to Osteoarthritis, healthcare professionals have defined Osteoarthritis as a degenerative joint disease with a high prevalence among older people.  As there is no known cure for Osteoarthritis, current research focuses on prevention and symptomatic treatment of the disorder. Recent research has indicated that muscle weakness precedes the onset of Osteoarthritis symptoms. Furthermore, several studies show a beneficial effect of land-based balance exercises, aerobic and strengthening exercises on pain relief and joint function, which results in improved mobility.

Standing Senior Balance Exercises

Land based senior balance exercises involve performing equilibrium routines in a standing position or in a walking fashion. Land based exercises can be rehearsed at home , at a health care clinic or at a fitness gym. As an example, standing equilibrium routines can include standing on the floor or on certain balance equipment like a couch cushion or a balance disc. You can start with standing on two feet, shoulder width a part, beginning with your eyes open and progressing to eyes closed standing. Next, you can advance your stability program by progressing to standing on one foot, with a goal of holding that position for twenty seconds, three times on each foot. To follow along with specific instructions on a senior balance exercises program, get the Exercise For Balance DVD.

Manage Diabetes With Balance Exercises And Physical Activity

Balance Exercises And Physical Fitness For Diabetics

By Suzanne Stoke, Physical Therapist @ Exercise For Balance via www.exerciseforbalance.com
Healthcare professionals are seeing the success of Diabetics who better manage their disease with physical fitness, balance exercises and diet. Please see exercises     http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now By regulating food intake, body weight and regular exercise, more and more Diabetics are finding that they are better able to control their disease and the symptoms of their disease. Additionally, starting with balance exercises is essential not only for safely with a fitness program but also to compensate for any symptoms of diabetic neuropathy. As a whole, physical fitness can benefit those with Diabetes in several ways including: -Improving blood glucose management
Activity makes your body more sensitive to the insulin you make. Activity also burns glucose (calories). Both actions lower blood glucose.
-Taking less insulin or diabetes medication
Activity can lower blood glucose and weight. Both of these may lower how much insulin or diabetes medication you need to take.
-Losing weight and keeping it off
Activity burns calories. If you burn enough calories, you’ll trim a few pounds. Stay active and you’ll keep off the weight!
-Managing stress
Stress not only affects your blood sugar levels, but also your ability to remember other key components like medication. Exercise can relieve stress, but I would always suggest opening your mind to other areas like dance, yoga even meditation. A nice stroll with a friend or pet provides both activity and stress release.
-Meeting dietary needs and goals
Eating to impact diabetes in the most beneficial way is key. Practice eating several meals of wide variety, including fruit and vegetables, and distributing them every 3-5 hours. Keep the meals low in added sugar and fats and high in fiber.  Additionally, for people with diabetes, the total amounts of carbohydrates consumed each day must be monitored carefully.  Of the different components of nutrition — carbohydrates, fats, and proteins — carbohydrates have the greatest influence on blood sugar levels. The foods recommended for a diet to control blood glucose (or sugar) are good for those with diabetes… and everyone else!
Managing the disease of diabetes is well within our control.    Regular physical activity including balance exercises can empower you in your disease.

 Balance Exercises For Diabetics

Including balance exercises in a daily fitness program is essential for diabetics. since Diabetic neuropathy, which involves diminished sensation and a sense of numbness in the feet, is a common symptom with Diabetics, practicing stability exercises is critical. One basic equilibrium routine you can include involves standing with your feet shoulder width a part and centering your body weight in the middle of your arches. At times, Diabetics who have severe numbness in their feet can imagine a plumb line drawn through their body with the line going through the middle of the body to the floor. Using a plumb line image helps the individual to improve their balance even if they do not have full sensory response from their feet. You can learn these stability techniques and a series of balance exercises in the Exercise For Balance DVD, developed by an experienced Physical Therapist.

Fall Secrets And Senior Balance Exercises

Senior Balance Exercises To Reduce Falls

By Suzanne Stoke, Physical Therapist @ Exercise For Balance via www.exerciseforbalance.comexercise for balance- caregivers
To minimize falling, healthcare professionals recommend partaking in a daily  senior balance exercises program. Please see http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Unfortunately, falling is very common among older adults. Statistics reveal that one in three seniors fall every year. Medical researchers, however, are finding that many times seniors do not report their falls to family or medical providers.  Maintaining an independent lifestyle is so important for some senior citizens as they age that they keep it a secret that they’ve experienced a fall. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that millions of adults 65 and older suffer from falls each year, but fewer than half tell their physician. According to Dr. Nicole Osevala, an internal medicine specialist at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, these adults may be concerned that a fall signals they’re not safe living on their own anymore. “They’re worried about other people becoming concerned about safety issues at home and the potential that they may have to move from their home to assisted living or a nursing home,”  says Osevala. Osevala advises patients and caregivers to tell their primary care physician when a fall has occurred so the reasons can be identified. Additionally, healthcare workers like doctors, nurses and physical therapists recommend that older individuals partake in daily senior balance exercises to enhance stability and minimize the potential of a fall.

Senior Balance Exercises For Better Stability

To acquire adequate steadiness for daily routines, the first step is to rehearse senior balance exercises every day. Equilibriums routines can involve standing on one foot, which is a basic aspect of the stance phase of walking. You can progress to walking stability routines like tandem walking. With tandem walking, you walk along a line in a heel to toe fashion. In this narrow position with your feet, you will challenge the balance reactions at your feet and ankles. You can learn these senior balance exercises as well as a step by step progression of other exercises presented in the exercise for balance DVD.
