Balance Exercises For Unstable Ankles
Balance exercises in general are essential to practice on a daily basis for older adults. Are balance exercises, however, even more important and beneficial for aging adults who suffer with ankle problems, including ankle instability? See http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-nowIt is well known that balance exercises and balance training enhance balance reactions that help to deter falling and injuries incurred from a fall. Now, the question is do balance exercises specifically assist folks with stiff or unstable ankles, secondary to disease processes like rheumatoid arthritis or overuse situations like osteoarthritis?
Balance Exercises And Ankle Issues
Balance exercises have been a focus of researchers more and more recently. A group of researchers, Mecagni C., Smith J.P., Roberts K.E. and O'Sullivan S.B., looked at balance exercises and ankle issues in the study, Balance and ankle range of motion in community-dwelling women aged 64 to 87 years. This study investigated the relationship between balance measures and ankle range of motion (ROM) in community-dwelling elderly women with no health problems. Identification of modifiable factors associated with balance may enable clinicians to design treatments to help reduce the risk of falls in elderly people. Results. Correlations between ankle range of motion and balance scores were found. Conclusion and Discussion. Balance Exercises For Home Or In The Gym
Balance exercises are essential to practice every day for older adults, but should balance exercises be performed at home or in the gym? Fortunately, balance exercises are adaptable for individual use at home. See http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Balance exercises can also be administered in a gym setting or in a nursing home or assisted living situation. But which environment is better or more effective?Balance Exercises-- At Home Or In A Group?
The question of whether balance exercises are better at home or in a group setting has been a recent topic of research. Jansson S. and So¨derlund A. in their recent study looked at: A new treatment programme to improve balance in elderly people - An evaluation of an individually tailored home-based exercise programme in five elderly women with a feeling of unsteadiness. Their study evaluated an individually tailored home-based exercise programme of balance in the elderly. The aim was also to examine if the degree of confidence of a person in performing common daily activities without falling could be influenced by training and if there were any relations between different physical factors and balance as well as between the degree of confidence in performing common daily activities without falling and balance. Results and Conclusions: The results showed that four of the five women had improved their balance and increased their degree of confidence in performing common daily activities without falling. The improved balance could be related to the increased activity level through walking outdoors. The treatment programme can be a useful model for physiotherapists in their work with balance problems in elderly people.Senior Balance Exercises In The Exercise For Balance DVD

Balance Exercises Help People With Dizziness
Balance exercises are one of the key ingredients to assist folks who suffer with chronic dizziness. Often times, people who have vertigo also have balance problems. See http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Balance exercises are important to practice on a daily basis when you reach the age of 60 and when you struggle with orthopedic or medical issues, like dizziness. Vertigo can stem from many factors including issues with the inner ear, medication or whiplash injuries. When you feel light-headed or dizzy, you most likely will feel off balance as well. Consequently, balance exercises and balance training is critical to keep from falling during those times of dizziness.Balance Exercises Coupled With Dizziness
Balancxe exercises and dizziness has recently been studied by researchers to see the effectiveness of balance training. Kao C.-L., Chen L.-K., Chern C.-M., Hsu L.-C., Chen C.-C. and Hwang S.-J. in their study, Rehabilitation outcome in home-based versus supervised exercise programs for chronically dizzy patients, looked at balance exercises for people with vertigo. Their results showed that for all ages of chronically dizzy patients, 2 months of balance exercises and balance training can reduce handicap, improve balance function and a consequent improvement of life quality. Health care professionals as well as older adults need to be educated about the importance of rehabilitation programs and balance exercises for treatment of chronic dizziness.Senior Balance Exercises In The Exercise For Balance DVD

Balance Exercises For Idiopathic Scoliosis
Balance Exercises Aid Idiopathic Scoliosis
Recently, a study was done to look at how balance exercises help with idiopathic scoliosis. Many times as scoliosis progresses, the upper back becomes bent forward. With the upper part of the trunk forward, the body's balance point is displaced forward resulting in poor balance and an increase in falls. Balance exercises and balance training can help with these issues as seen in a new study by Byl N.N., Holland S., Jurek A. and Hu S.S. in the report: Postural imbalance and vibratory sensitivity in patients with idiopathic scoliosis.Balance Exercises For Scoliosis Conditions
Balance exercises were researched for people with scoliosis and balance problems. OBJECTIVES: Sporadic research reports of decreased proprioception and balance problems have been reported in subjects with idiopathic scoliosis, yet these sensory motor deficits have not been addressed in conservative clinical management programs. The purpose of this study was to compare both balance reactions and vibratory sensitivity (as an estimate of proprioception) in patients with idiopathic scoliosis. The findings suggest there may be problems with postural righting in patients with idiopathic scoliosis, particularly when the balance task challenges the vestibular pathways. Given that curves can continue to progress even into the adult years, improving the ability to right the body with gravity could help maintain the balance of the spine despite structural asymmetry.Balance Exercises In The Exercise For Balance DVD

Balance Exercises For Basketball Skills
Balance exercises are the cornerstone for passing, shooting and dribbling in basketball. For instance, to be able to shoot a basket you need to control your balance center point while quickly transitioning from running to straight up jumping. Balance exercises can help you to learn to control your center balance point with both dynamic and static movements. For the skill of passing the ball on the run, one also needs to be able to perform dynamic movements with the arms while most likely engaging in dynamic movements with legs and feet as well. Again, high level balance exercises are required at the foundational level to be able to accurately perform dynamic on dynamic movements.

Balance Exercises Enhanced With Weight Training
Balance Exercises Improved With Weight Training
Balance exercises are a known entity to improve balance and prevent falls and injuries from falling. We also understand that leg strengthening exercises and having strong legs benefits balance reactions and stability. See http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now The question is how much weight training is prudent to build leg strength, which in turn enhances balance exercises and balance abilities?Balance Exercises Benefitted By Strengthening Exercises
Balance exercises and strength training go hand in hand. How much strength training is enough and how much is too much? Thankfully, research has come out to answer that query. Hess J.A. and Woollacott M. in their excellent study, Effect of high-intensity strength training on functional measures of balance ability in balance impaired older adults, looked at balance exercises and strength exercises in the older active adult population. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of a 10-week, high-intensity strength-training program targeting key lower extremity muscles for the purpose of improving postural control in balance-impaired older adults. Results: After strength training, the exercisers were significantly stronger than the control subjects. Conclusions: High-intensity strength training can safely and effectively strengthen lower extremity muscles in balance-impaired older adults, resulting in significant improvements in functional balance ability and decreased fall risk. Therefore, high intensity strength training, not just mild range of motion exercises, are beneficial to improve balance and reduce the risk of falling for older adults.Senior Balance Exercises In The Exercise For Balance DVD

Balance Exercises For Tennis
Balance Exercises To Improve Your Tennis Game
Balance exercises are the foundation of every movement we perform from standing, walking, stair climbing to higher level activities including hiking, golf, dancing and tennis. See http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Balance exercises are important for the static and dynamic components of tennis. Within the game of tennis, you must be able to transition swiftly from running full speed from the baseline to abruptly stopping at the neck for a volley. Those movements require high-level balance activities. To prepare for returning a serve, you must be able to maintain your balance in a static position. If you are off balance when the serve arrives, your chances of a mis hit or more likely.

Balance Exercises Two For One
Balance Exercise Effectiveness
Balance exercises can do more than we think at first glance. See http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now What if there was an exercise routine that you could get two for one results? Would you do it? Fantastic! Now we know that balance exercises can enhance not only balance abilities but strength gains too.Balance Exercises Correlate With Strength Exercises
Balance exercises have been the focus of substantial research over the last few years. We have been informed that balance exercises and balance training increases balance skills, but can balance exercises advance our strength as well? In their excellent study, Gain in strength and muscular balance after balance training, Heitkamp H.-C., Horstmann T., Mayer F., Weller J. and Dickhuth H.-H. looked at the crossover of improving strength by doing balance exercises. The isolated effect of balance training on muscle strength of the flexors and extensors of the knee, without accompanying strength training, has not been addressed in the past. Effects of a balance training program alone were compared to a strength training program. Strength gain was similar for the flexors and extensors in both groups. One-leg balance improved after balance exercises and balance training with a 100% increase over the strength training group, but not in the strength training group. The results indicate balance training to be effective for gain in muscular strength, and secondly, in contrast to strength training, equalisation of muscular imbalances may be achieved after balance exercises and balance training.Balance Exercises In The Exercise For Balance DVD

Do Balance Exercises Help Ankle Sprains?
Balance Exercises: Rehab For Ankle Sprains
Balance exercises are a vital part of the rehabilitation process after an ankle sprain. Some people sprain their ankle from a forceful blow, like getting hit from the side in a football game. Some people have weak ankles and they roll their ankles at the drop of a hat. In either case, balance exercises are important to perform after an ankle sprain for several reasons. See http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Balance exercises help to strengthen ankle instability after a sprain. Balance exercises and balance training help to reestablish the proprioceptive feedback from the ankles to the brain with stability routines. Balance exercises also aid in restoring the flexibility needed after an ankle ligament strain.Balance Exercises Post Ankle Strain
Balance exercises and ankle strains have been a recent focus for research. In their excellent paper, Systematic review of postural control and lateral ankle instability: Is balance training clinically effective? McKeon P.O. and Hertel J. detailed balance exercises, balance training and their effects on ankle sprains. They looked at (1) Can prophylactic balance and coordination training reduce the risk of sustaining a lateral ankle sprain? (2) Can balance and coordination training improve treatment outcomes associated with acute ankle sprains? (3) Can balance and coordination training improve treatment outcomes in patients with chronic ankle instability? They found that prophylactic balance training substantially reduced the risk of sustaining ankle sprains, with a greater effect seen in those with a history of a previous sprain. Completing at least 6 weeks of balance training after an acute ankle sprain substantially reduced the risk of recurrent ankle sprains.Balance Exercises In The Exercise For Balance DVD
Balance exercises and balance training is therefore imperative to perform after an ankle sprain. Balance Exercise And Strength Exercise Gains
Balance Exercises And Strength Exercises Effectiveness
Balance exercises are a known ingredient to help enhance balance skills, balance reactions and fall prevention. As we age, our balance abilities diminish secondary to the decline in our balance system component functions. See http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Our vision becomes less acute. Our inner ear vestibular system hair cells get stiffer and less responsive. Also, our feet and ankles get weaker and stiffer, thereby resulting in greater imbalance and a higher risk of falling. Balance exercises, therefore, have been proven to help improve balance reactions in our feet and ankles, increase our balance skills and reduce the incidence of falling. We have seen that balance exercises are essential, but what about strength exercises?Balance Exercises And Strength Exercises Working Together
Balance exercises and strength exercises are necessary as we age, but how do we know their effects? Thankfully, a recent research study has been published by Heitkamp H.-C., Horstmann T., Mayer F., Weller J. and Dickhuth H.-H. that looks at how balance exercises and strength exercises interact to benefit the individual in their paper, Gain in strength and muscular balance after balance training and balance exercises. The isolated effect of balance training on muscle strength of the flexors and extensors of the knee, without accompanying strength training, has not been addressed in the past. Effects of a balance training program alone were compared to a strength training program. Balance and strength training were performed by 15 persons each for 6 weeks including 12 training units of 25 min. Balance training was performed on instability training devices such as rolling board, mini trampoline and large rubber ball. The 15 persons of the strength training group trained on machines for leg curls and on leg presses for 25 min per unit. One-leg balance improved after balance training with a 100% increase over the strength training group and the stabilometer test for each person in the balance, but not in the strength training group. The results indicate balance training to be effective for gain in muscular strength, and secondly, in contrast to strength training, equalisation of muscular imbalances may be achieved after balance training and balance exercises.Balance Exercises In The Exercise For Balance DVD

Balance Exercises Following A Stroke
Balance Exercises Designed For After A Stoke
Balance exercises are an essential component of rehabilitation following a stroke. Usually, depending on the extent of the injury, stroke victims experience weakness on one side of their body after a stroke. See http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Because of that weakness, they typically shift their weight off their weak side and on to their "good leg" in attempts of being able to be mobile. Balance exercises are therefore important to practice after a stoke to help properly align the body's center balance point and to help with activities like getting up from a chair, standing and walking.Balance Exercises For Post-stroke Individuals
Balance exercises are a cornerstone of rehabilitation following a stroke. Recently, Lubetzky-Vilnai A. and Kartin D. studied balance exercises for stroke victims in their paper, The effect of balance training on balance performance in individuals post stroke. Stroke is a leading cause of long-term disability, and impaired balance after stroke is strongly associated with future function and recovery. Until recently there has been limited evidence to support the use of balance exercises and balance training to improve balance performance in this population. Information about the optimum exercise dosage has also been lacking. This review evaluated recent evidence related to the effect of balance training on balance performance among individuals post stroke across the continuum of recovery. We found moderate evidence that balance performance can be improved following individual, "one-on-one" balance training and balance exercises for participants in the acute stage of stroke, and either one-on-one balance training or group therapy for participants with subacute or chronic stroke. Moderate evidence also suggests that in the acute stage, intensive balance training for 2 to 3 times per week may be sufficient, whereas exercising for 90 minutes or more per day, 5 times per week may be excessive. Conclusions: This review supports the use of balance training exercises to improve balance performance for individuals with moderately severe stroke.Balance Exercises In The Exercise For Balance DVD

Balance exercises are the basic means to prevent falls, but lets review the other components of health and fitness that effects falling. Toraman A. and Yildirim N.T. in their article, The falling risk and physical fitness in older people, set out to explain what factors lead to falling in older adults. Aims of this study was to analyze the correlation between the falling risk and their physical fitness, determining the top parameters affecting the falling risk, and preparing an evaluation procedure for the medical department working on this issue for the old people in retirement homes. This study includes 60 persons whose mean age was 73.3 ± 6.6 years. Their demographic characteristics, cognitive function, their balance, falling risk and their physical fitness level have been evaluated. We have shown that the falling risk increases with declining of upper and lower extremity muscle strength, aerobic endurance, agility and dynamic balance performance. Agility and dynamic balance performance were mostly relevant with falling risk. We concluded that the old persons' falling risk and physical fitness level should be evaluated in some intervals. According to their falling risks and physical fitness level, the rehabilitation programs should be programmed to decrease their falling risk, and to increase lower and upper extremity muscle strength, aerobic endurance and especially their agility and dynamic balance performance.Senior Balance Exercises In The Exercise For Balance DVD

Balance exercises can assist with that nagging problem of weak ankles and ankle instability. Balance exercises were studied to see their impact on folks with unstable ankles. Objectives: To determine the effects of a 4-week balance training program, including balance exercises, during stance on a single leg. Background: Individuals who have experienced multiple episodes of inversion ankle sprains often participate in balance exercises and balance training programs. Balance training is performed to treat existing proprioceptive deficits and to restore ankle joint stability, presumably by retraining altered afferent neuromuscular pathways. Results: Following training, subjects from both groups demonstrated significant improvements in balance ability. Conclusions: This study suggests that balance training, involving balance exercises, is an effective means of improving joint proprioception and single-leg standing ability in subjects with unstable and nonimpaired ankles. The Exercise For Balance DVD can help meet the needs of those with unstable ankles. Balance Exercises And Falling Downstairs
Balance exercises are important for the young and old. Just today I heard a disturbing statistic that mentioned that one in four children fall down the stairs and injure themselves. Often times, the children are hurt because they are being carried down stairs by an adult who falls in injures the child. See http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Consequently, both children and adults could benefit from balance exercises and balance training.

Balance Exercise Components
One of the main components of balance exercises is to use the sense of touch between our feet into floor. Some balance exercise information that is available on the Internet suggests to stand on one foot to both challenge and advance balance abilities. Just trying to stand on one foot, however, does not provide the connection between the brain and the body that is required to develop balance skills. Before practicing balance exercises, one must learn how to find their center balance point, which connects the brain in the body to perform proper balance reactions.
