Therapeutic Exercise And Senior Balance Exercise

Senior Balance Exercises Together With Therapeutic Exercises

By Suzanne Stoke, Physical Therapist @ Exercise For Balance via www.exerciseforbalance.comready for balance exercises
Healthcare providers are encouraging older adults to participate in a wide variety of fitness programs including therapeutic exercises as well as senior balance exercises to stay healthy and free from falls. Please see    http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Medical researchers have found that falling, and fear of falling, significantly affect older people and their lifestyle resulting in loss of confidence, restriction of activity and deteriorating quality of life. Multi-factorial assessment and active participation in an evidence-based exercise programs are key interventions to prevent and manage falls. Medical researchers have investigated the effectiveness of combining therapeutic exercises with equilibrium routines.  Of the older individuals who participated in resistance exercises and steadiness exercises,  patient satisfaction levels were high (95% satisfied or very satisfied) with the outcomes of improved leg strength and increased balance abilities.

Combine therapeutic Exercises With Senior Balance Exercises

Medical researchers have demonstrated that the combination of therapeutic exercises and senior balance exercises result in improved steadiness, greater leg strength and force production in leg muscles, decreased fear of falling and reduced risk and incidence of falling. As a result, healthcare professionals like physical therapists, occupational therapists, nurses, doctors and care providers recommend implementing fitness routines that include both therapeutic exercises and stability exercises. Therapeutic exercises can include resistance training like performing weight lifting routines or closed chain exercises like squats and toe raises. Additionally, steadiness routines can include balance work like standing on one foot for twenty to thirty seconds or walking along a line in tandem stance formation. By combining resistance strengthening and equilibrium routines, you are able to synergistically improve both balance abilities and the leg strength needed for good balance. Now, you can practice both appropriate strength exercises and proper senior balance exercises in the comfort of your own home by following along with the expert instruction in the Exercise For Balance DVD.

Head Trauma, Vertigo, And Senior Balance Exercises

Senior Balance Exercises Help After Head Trauma

By Suzanne Stoke, Physical Therapist @ Exercise For Balance via www.exerciseforbalance.com
Since the incidence of falling and subsequent  trauma to the head have increased as the population has aged, medical researchers have started to focus their studies on the effectiveness of senior balance exercises  and vertigo exercises for older adults after a fall. Please see    http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Statistics reveal that the fall rate for our aging population involves one in three senior citizens falling every year. Unfortunately, falls often result in a blow to the head and subsequent trauma, which includes vertigo and disequilibrium. Head trauma from a fall  is considered a common cause of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo.  Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo is one of the most common forms of vertigo for older people and the incidence of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo increases to thirty percent at the age of seventy years old. Not only have medical researchers seen that the incidence of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo increases over the years, they have also determined that vertigo secondary to a blow to the head can have a greater degree of reoccurrence. In light of these statistics, it is essential for older individuals to perform senior balance exercises every day to maximize their balance abilities and limit their possibility of falling and hitting their head.

Try Senior Balance Exercises To Reduce Falls

Medical researchers have proven that routinely practicing senior balance exercises can boost ones stability and decrease the incidence of falling and being injured from a fall. One simple equilibrium routine you can try at home involves standing with your feet in a line, heel to toe. Be sure to stand near a counter, table or other stable object if you need to grab on. In this tandem stance position, your feet and ankles will wobble quickly back and forth. This excessive movement is your natural balance reactions at work keeping you upright and building your balance skills. You can learn how to do these senior balance exercises and a step by step progression of other steadiness routines and strengthening exercises by following the direction of a knowledgeable Physical Therapist in the Exercise For Balance DVD.

Muscle Power And Senior Balance Exercises

Need For Senior Balance Exercises For Those With Muscle Weakness

By Suzanne Stoke, Physical Therapist @ Exercise For Balance via www.exerciseforbalance.com
In later years, older individuals experience generalized muscle weakness and imbalance problems, which can be helped by practicing senior balance exercises. Please see   http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Medical researchers have shown that senior citizens undergo a gradual weakening of muscles that are essential for stability with activities like walking, climbing stairs, getting up from a chair and other activities of daily living. The muscles that are critical for steadiness with movement activities include lower extremity and trunk muscles. In particular, a study, Contribution of muscle weakness to postural instability in the elderly, was recently published by Orr, R which investigated the correlation of muscle strength, postural stability and balance. The study examined the contribution of muscle weakness to postural stability in healthy older adults to determine the relationship between muscle weakness and balance impairment. The study revealed that reduced muscle power is an important component of diminished balance abilities in senior citizens. Thankfully, in subsequent studies, medical researchers have found that those in the aging population who perform specific strengthening exercises that target leg and core muscles are able to improve their overall balance.

Combine Senior Balance Exercises And Strength Exercises

To enhance stability and reduce the risk of falling, older adults are encouraged to rehearse senior balance exercises on a regular basis. To maximize results of improved balance, adding targeted strengthening exercises to equilibrium routines is advantageous. To be specific, you can include strengthening exercises for the calf and thigh muscles to advance balance abiities. One of the easiest ways to strengthen the Qquadriceps muscles on the front of the thigh is to perform squat exercises. Additionally, you can strengthen the Gastrocnemius muscles in the back of the calf by raising up on your toes, lifting your heels off the ground. By adding these two strengthening exercises to specific steadiness routines, you will be able increase muscle power and balance skills for safety with movement activities. You can learn both strengthening and balance exercises by following along with the instruction of a knowledgeable Physical Therapist in the Exercise For Balance DVD.

Benefits Of Fitness And Senior Balance Exercises

Senior Balance Exercises Compliment Fitness Programs

By Suzanne Stoke, Physical Therapist @ Exercise For Balance via www.exerciseforbalance.comWalking- Exercise for balance for walking
Staying physically fit is an essential factor in healthy living for older adults and performing senior balance exercises can be a key component. Please see    http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Recently, medical researchers have been investigating the health benefits of fitness programs that include equilibrium routines, cardiovascualr fitness and strengthening for older adults. As an example, The Beckman Institute, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, researchers led by Monica Fabiani and Gabriele Gratton, recently published a study, New Optical Imaging of Brain Confirms Arteries More Elastic in Fit Seniors, in which they monitored the health responses for those in the aging population who participate in a multicomponent fitness program. In their study, they revealed a new discovery that can noninvasively image the pulse pressure and elasticity of the arteries of the brain, revealing correlations between arterial health and aging. Brain artery support, which makes up the cerebrovascular system, is crucial for healthy brain aging and preventing diseases like Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia. "When we image the brain using our optical methods, we usually remove the pulse as an artifact—we take it out in order to get to other signals from the brain," said Fabiani. "But we are interested in aging and how the brain changes with other bodily systems, like the cardiovascular system. When thinking about this, we realized it would be useful to measure the cerebrovascular system as we worry about cognition and brain physiology." The initial results using this new technique find that arterial stiffness is directly correlated with cardiorespiratory fitness: the more fit people are, the more elastic their arteries. Because arterial stiffening is a cause of reduced brain blood flow, stiff arteries can lead to a faster rate of cognitive decline and an increased chance of stroke, especially in older adults. This study shows, therefore, that a critical component of healthy living is participating in fitness programs that have balance training as a foundational aspect.

Start Fitness Programs With Senior Balance Exercises

The first step towards embarking on a safe fitness program like brisk walking involves starting with senior balance exercises to establish a strong foundation of stability. As an example, one type of dynamic balance exercise that you can start with involves walking a long a line heel to toe. With this tandem walking rouitne, you will notice a challenge to your steadiness and greater movement at the ankles in a side to side fashion. The excessive movement at the ankles is your natural balance reactions at work, keeping you upright. As a result, your balance skills are advanced with this tandem walking routine. Once your stability improves, you will be able to initiate a brisk walking program. You can learn how to practice this tandem walking rouitne as well as other senior balance exercises by following along with the instruction of an experienced Physical Therapist in the Exercise For Balance DVD.

How Balance Exercises Helped A Fallen Bowler

Balance Exercises For A Bowler Who Had Fallen

By Suzanne Stoke, Physical Therapist @ Exercise For Balance via www.exerciseforbalance.com/bowling photo: Shannon bowling Shannonbowling_zps3439f641.jpg
This is a true story about how practicing balance exercises helped an individual get back on their feet and back to their sport after sustaining a fall and an injury while bowling. Awhile back, a neighbor of mine lost her balance, slipped and fell and broke her upper arm bone in three places. She had to have surgery to place pins in her upper arm and she was in a sling for six weeks. Furthermore, several months physical therapy to get her arm moving again. Slowly, she was able to return to functional activities like getting dressed and washing her hair independently. Her greatest obstacle to overcome, however, was her fear of falling and injuring herself again. Her key to successful re-entry to her recreational activities was to rehearse balance exercises every day to improve her balance and enhance her confidence to avoid further fall injury. Please see   http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now

Balance Exercises For All Recreational Activities

Practicing balance exercises consistently will help you to develop the stability skills are needed not only for activities with home, but also for recreational activities that you enjoy outside the home. One specific equilibrium routine that can be beneficial for both activities of daily living or sports activities is to find your center balance point in the base of support at the feet and maintain your body mass at the center point while engaging in various challenges to your balance. You can practice controlling your body’s weight shifting and center balance point while challenging your balance by reaching forwards and backwards, looking side to side or bending down to an object off the floor. To make balance exercises specific towards bowling, you can practice a combination static and dynamic stability routines that include standing on one foot and swinging the other foot forwards and backwards. You can also practice dynamic lunging exercises that mimic the release movement found in bowling. Thankfully, my neighbor was able to perform beginning stability exercise to establish good standing and walking steadiness. She then advanced her balance exercise routine to develop sports specific stability, enabling her to return to her friends and sport that she loves. She was able to work on her balance skills at home with the Exercise For Balance DVD, which she used to follow along with detailed balance techniques, strength exercises and appropriate balance exercises.

Nystagmus And Balance Exercises

Balance Exercises Are Essential For Those With Nystagmus

By Suzanne Stoke, Physical Therapist @ Exercise For Balance via www.exerciseforbalance.com
For people who struggle with nystagmus, performing balance exercises  every day is highly recommended. Please see   http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Nystagmus is an involuntary, rapid and repetitive movement of the eyes. Usually the movement is side-to-side (horizontal nystagmus), but it can also be up and down (vertical nystagmus) or circular (rotary nystagmus). The movement can vary between slow and fast, and it usually involves both eyes. There are two types of nystagmus: congenital and acquired. Congenital nystagmus develops in infancy, usually between six weeks and three months of age. Sensory nystagmus also occurs early in life and is related to poor vision caused by a variety of eye conditions, including cataract (cloudiness of the eye's lens), strabismus (eye misalignment) and optic nerve hypoplasia. As they get older, children with nystagmus don't see the world as shaky, but they will probably develop less clear vision. Acquired nystagmus occurs later in life and has a variety of causes, including an association with serious medical conditions or trauma like a blow to the head from a fall or a motor vehicle accident. Unlike children with nystagmus, adults who acquire nystagmus may see images as shaky. Additionally, individuals may have nystagmus as a result of conditions involving vertigo, specifically called Benign Proxsymal Positional Vertigo. For people with nystagmus, symptoms of being off balanced often occur, especially for older adults. Consequently, it is critical for people with nystagmus to perform balance exercises on a consistent basis to minimize their imbalance and risk for a fall.
Everything can seem shaky with nystagmus...

Balance Exercises For Those With Visual Deficits

If you experience nystagmus for any reason, it is suggested that you immediately begin a program of balance exercises. since nystagmus can cause a person's vision to be shaky and since vision is the primary sensory input for stability, people with visual problems like nystagmus should consistently follow a program of equilibrium exercises. The first step is to learn to compensate for the visual difficulties by concentrating on the sense of touch between your feet and the floor. By using sensory input from the feet, you will be able to maximize your balance skills and limit the potential of a fall. Once you learn to focus on the sensory input from the feet, you can initiate a steadiness exercises program like standing in a tandem stance position. In this position, you stand with one foot directly in front of the other foot (Stand near a counter or table for safety). You can learn these stability techniques and balance exercises in the Exercise For Balance DVD, which was developed by a knowledgeable Physical Therapist.

Living With Imbalance And Balance Exercises

Balance Exercises Help To Live With Imbalance

By Suzanne Stoke, Physical Therapist @ Exercise For Balance via www.exerciseforbalance.comBALANCE EXERCISES FOR FALL PREVENTION IN THE KITCHEN
Many people who live with balance and dizziness disorders would benefit from practicing balance exercises as part of a daily routine. Please see   http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now As we age, many more people experience symptoms of dizziness, vertigo and disequilibrium that can be a result of a vestibular disorder. As a result, many common activities in life can become very challenging and the possibility of falling and injuring oneself can be a looming distraction with every movement activitiy. Whether your symptoms of dizziness, vertigo and imbalance come on gradually or all at once, you will have to adjust to the challenges of everyday living. Some of the daily activities that can be effected by dizziness and balance problems can include:
-Shopping
-Cleaning house
-Walking up and down stairs
-Getting out of a chair safely
-Gardening
-Changing a light bulb
-Walking or hiking
-Traveling in a bus, train or plane
-Getting to the bathroom safely at night
These activities and many more can be effected by balance problems and symptoms of lightheadedness. Fortunately, individuals who suffer with these symptoms can be helped by performing balance exercises every day.

Balance Exercises For Symptoms Of Imbalance

For those folks who live with symptoms of lightheadedness and poor stability, working on a program of  balance exercises on a consistent basis can assist in enhancing steadiness and improving ones overall quality of life. Even dedicating a few moments to an equilibrium program every day can advance your stability to maximize your balance skills that are necessary for all activities of daily living. You can start a balance program by simple exercises like standing on one foot near a sink, counter or table. Try to stand on one foot for twenty or thirty seconds, which will challenge the balance reactions at your feet and ankles making those balance reactions stronger and faster. Having strong balance reactions will enable you to respond quickly to the ever changing movement of your body weight over your base of support, which are your feet if you are in a standing position. This equilibrium exercise can be advanced by following the progression of exercises developed by an experienced Physical Therapist in the Exercise For Balance DVD.
