Older adults who suffer with irregular heartbeats are encouraged to practice simple physical fitness activities preceded by senior balance exercises. Please see more at  http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Medical researchers have provided new information in Circulation: Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology, an American Heart Association journal. The researchers have shown that when older people develop atrial fibrillation — the most common type of irregular heartbeat — it accelerates age-related declines in walking speed, strength, balance and other aspects of physical performance. “Particularly in older adults, we need to be mindful that the effects of atrial fibrillation  go beyond increasing the risk of heart failure and stroke. We learned from this study that older adults with atrial fibrillation are especially vulnerable to losing strength, balance, gait speed and coordination,” said Jared W. Magnani, M.D., Ms.C., lead author of the study and assistant professor of medicine at Boston University. In atrial fibrillation, the heart’s two small upper chambers (atria) beat irregularly and too fast, which may increase the risk of stroke, heart failure and other conditions. The risk rises with age and can lead to other issues like imbalance and a greater risk for falling. As a result, medical researchers as well as doctors, physician assistants and physical therapists recommend that those in the aging population with heart conditions practice certain physical fitness routines and specific senior balance exercises to stay steady during heart healthy activities.

Senior Balance Exercises For Safe Heart Healthy Routines

By incorporating senior balance exercises with heart healthy fitness routines, older individuals can workout safely. as an example, senior citizens can practice tandem walking, where they walk along a line in a heel to toe fashion, to help build strong balance reactions at their feet and ankles. With strong and fast balance reactions, older adults will be able to recover from any poor footing or slipping when they are out on a brisk walk, which is recommended for good heart health. You can learn how to perform tandem walking and other senior balance exercises by following the instructions in the Exercise For Balance DVD.
