In her own words, she said, " Death did not want to kill me. " " They only shot a body but they cannot shoot my dreams.” The bullet that pierced Malala's head severely damaged her inner ear vestibular system and hearing system as well as causing nerve damage to her facial muscles. Through a series of surgeries, Malala had a plate placed in the left side of her skull. Additionally, she later had a surgery for a cochlear implant to restore her hearing. because the vestibular system in her inner ear was damaged, when Malala tried to walk she was severely off balance and needed to practice balance exercises to help her walk again without falling.
