Staying The Course With Balance Exercises

Balance Exercises For The Long Haul

By Suzanne Stoke, Physical Therapist @ Exercise For Balance via www.exerciseforbalance.com/ Balance exercises  could be one of the single most important health activities that we have an opportunity to engage in on a daily basis. Stability routines are a wonderful foundation to build on to perform regular fitness programs that are also essential for our daily health. Please see http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Equilibrium exercises have been by medical researchers proven over and over to improve balance and  reduce the risk and incidence of falling. Statistics reveal that one in three seniors fall every year. That means that for those in the age category of over 60 years old about 20 million will fall this year and have a high likelihood of incurring a debilitating injury like a hip, wrist or shoulder fracture. Stability exercises are essential to perform for optimal health, but how do we stay motivated to carry on with a balance program every day?

Don't Give Up On Balance Exercises

Balance exercises are one of the critical components of the recommended exercises that are essential for staying healthy into our later years. Despite the constant barrage of messages we all face to influence us to be involved in an exercise program on a daily basis, there is still quite a resistance. I was shocked to hear that statistics published by Iowa State University now suggest that only 48% of Baby Boomers engage in physical activity. That means that over half of that population group don't exercise at all. The statistics are worse for younger folks. A shocking 3.5% of Americans age 20-59 get the recommended dose of exercise. WOW!!! So, if you are a Baby Boomer, how do you join the ranks of those who exercise and enjoy better health? One way is to be scared into action by being informed that your risk for falling this year is one in three. If you know two other Baby Boomers, one of you will fall. Performing balance routines can keep you from being the one who falls and injures themselves. Another way to be encouraged to practice stability exercises on a daily basis is to perform those balance routines with others to increase the socialization aspect of exercising. Now, you can practice equilibrium exercises at home with a loved one or at a gym or senior center with others by following the balance exercise program presented in the Exercise For Balance DVD.
