Balance Exercises For You And Your Dog

Balance Exercises For Walking The Dogof the 2013 Westminster

Balance exercises are not only important for you to stay on your feet while walking the dog, but they can also be fun for your dog. Recently, we enjoyed the pomp and circumstance at the Westminster Dog Show. I found it very entertaining to watch the well groomed and well trained pouches prance around the ring. I am always impressed that the handlers can prance as well as the dogs. I wonder if the handlers practice their own dynamic balance activities to look as smooth and balanced as the dogs they show.  Far too often, however, for most of us regular folks we hear stories of people falling secondary to being pulled by their dog on a walk. Frequently, folks can slip on an icy spot, get tangled in their dog's leash, trip on the leash and take a spill. In our neighborhood, rabbits run wild, enticing the dogs to take up chase. That is another opportunity to get pulled off-balance and fall. Stability exercises can help improve steadiness while walking. Equilibrium exercises can also help to enhance balance reactions at a person's feet and ankles, which helps them to be able to handle being pulled off-balance. Please see  http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now

Balance Exercises To Handle Challenging Situations

Balance exercises are essential to practice on a daily basis in a safe and controlled environment, preparing you to handle challenges outside your home like walking the dog. Having a pet like a dog has great benefits including companionship, socialization, improved mood and enhanced health. Owning dogs is a great way to be motivated to get out and take a walk everyday for the health of your dog as well as your own health. Before you step out the door, however, be sure to practice stability exercises so you can stay on your feet and avoid falling if something unusual arises. The first balance exercise you can practice should be performed in a safe place like near a counter or table with your eyes open. You can progress your stability exercises by narrowing your base of support or by advancing the challenge to your balance system by standing on a soft surface like a couch cushion.
