Balance Exercises For Those With Multiple Sclerosis

Balance exercises help improve stability and reduce the number of falls for those with Multiple Sclerosis. Peterson EW, Ben Ari E, Asano M, Finlayson ML. looked at the effectiveness of balance exercises and the common ways people with Multiple Sclerosis experience falls in their study Fall Attributions among Middle Aged and Older Adults with Multiple Sclerosis. Their objective for the research study was to explore the falls attributions of middle aged and older adults with multiple sclerosis (MS), and (2) to examine the personal, health and MS-related factors associated with the three most common attributions. They found that the primary reason people with Multiple Sclerosis fall is balance problems, followed by lower extremity malfunction and assistive technology. They concluded that their findings highlighted the complex nature of falls among middle-aged and older adults with Multiple Sclerosis and pointed to the need for comprehensive fall prevention interventions, including balance exercises, for this population.
