Senior Balance Exercises And The Risk Of Falling

Senior Balance Exercises And The Fall Rate

By Suzanne Stoke, Physical Therapist @ Exercise For Balance via www.exerciseforbalance.com Senior balance exercises are the best way to reduce the risk and rate of falling. Please see  http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now  The Center Of Disease Control rates the incidence of falling for individuals over 60 years old as one in three. That statistic comes out to about 20 million seniors falling every year. That number is alarming. Statistically, one in every three older adults that you know, whether that is a parent, aunt, uncle, neighbor, friend or even yourself, will fall and potentially injure themself this year. Thankfully, balance exercises can help reduce the rate of falling for the older generation.

Senior Balance Exercises Reduce The Risk Of Falling

Senior balance exercises have been studied by medical researchers to reveal their benefits and ability to diminish the fall rate for the elderly. Toraman A, Yildirim NU. in their research study, The falling risk and physical fitness in older people, investigated balance training, physical fitness and the rate of falling.  Aims of this study was to analyze the correlation between the falling risk and their physical fitness, determining the top parameters affecting the falling risk, and preparing an evaluation procedure for the medical department working on this issue for the old people in retirement homes. CONCLUSION- We have shown that the falling risk increases with declining of upper and lower extremity muscle strength, aerobic endurance, agility and dynamic balance performance. Agility and dynamic balance performance were mostly relevant with falling risk. We concluded that the old persons' falling risk and physical fitness level should be evaluated in some intervals. According to their falling risks and physical fitness level, the rehabilitation programs should be programmed to decrease their falling risk, and to increase lower and upper extremity muscle strength, aerobic endurance and especially their agility and dynamic balance performance.
