Decrease Injuries With Balance Training

Reducing Injuries With Effective Balance Training

By Suzanne Stoke, Physical Therapist @ Exercise For Balance see link http://www.exerciseforbalance.com                Experiencing a fall is a major problem for seniors as they age. with every year that passes in the United States, one of every third adult greater than the age of 65 will fall. Roughly, in about 10 percent of those spills, serious injuries will occur. Hip injury is among the most prevalent, with about a quarter of a million hip fractures occurring in aging adults annually. Many of those falls are caused by diminished strength in the leg, hip and core muscles of the body, which reduces balance and stability while standing or walking. In such cases, balance exercises can significantly limit the risk of falls, increasing safety, independence and a better quality of life. Please see www.exerciseforbalance.com/products/

Balance Problems Have Serious Consequences

Debilitating injuries can happen secondary to falling no matter your age, but the consequences can be much more severe in older adults than in younger fall victims. The reason for that is because bones weaken with age. Seniors experience age-related bone loss, which reduces bone mass and density. In aging adults affected by osteoporosis, bone loss has accelerated to the point that bones are fragile, making even a relatively minor fall a hazard for fractures of the spine or hip. Adding poor balance to that equation is a recipe for disaster, making serious, debilitating hip injury much more likely to occur. For more information on osteoporosis see www.MayoClinic.com

  Balance Training To Reduce Falls

Balance training performed on a daily basis will help to improve balance skills and reduce the risk and incidence of falling. Statistics have proven that by practicing balance routines on a daily basis you can increase the reaction times for your balance reactions. With balance training, you can also enhance vital leg strength and ankle mobility. Stability exercises also overall help you control your weight shifting and diminish the risk for falling.
