Bird's Eye View Of Balance Exercises

Balance Exercises On High

By Suzanne Stoke, Physical Therapist @ Exercise For Balance via www.exerciseforbalance.com
A group of French daredevils demonstrated unique balance exercises far above the ground. Please see  http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now The picture displays a man trying to tightrope walk between hot air balloons without safety ropes.  Thank goodness participants are wearing parachutes... they come in handy. Sebastien Montaz-Rosset recorded the stunt of the amazing Frenchmen who defy gravity with many of their activities. In this attempt, the group of extreme athletes attempts to walk on a slackline between two hot air balloons above the Pre-Pyrenees foothills in Spain. The stunt was performed using a line of nylon connecting two balloons at a height of 10,000 ft (3,48 meters). Neither of the three acrobats who tried to complete the walk did so, with two tumbling to earth attached to parachutes. These French daredevils, better known as ‘Skyliners', test the odds by attempting stunts and developing creative new ideas for better ways to challenge their balance. High-wire walkers Phillipe Petit and Alain Robert are the sky walkers, both trained in the art of tightrope walking, both experienced in taking their creative hobby to the limit. Robert has (legally and illegally) scaled some of the world’s tallest skyscrapers and Petit is best known for successfully crossing between New York City's Twin Towers eight times in 1974. These athletes have balance abilities that are out of this world that still rely on basic principles that the rest of us earthbound folks can take advantage of.

Balance Exercises For Every Day Living

Performing balance exercises as a regular part of your day can assist in developing better stability skills and reduce the potential for a fall.  We all may not be trying to walk a tightrope between buildings or hot air balloons. Additionally, we may not be base jumping off rock formations like these Frenchman, but we can all benefit from rehearsing specific stability skills and equilibrium routines that are designed to make our lives safer. One basic steadiness principle to learn is how to stand with your body weight centered in the middle of the base of support defined by your feet. Furthermore, a simple equilibrium routine to practice every day involves standing on one foot and keeping your weight centered in the middle of your arch. In this position, you will challenge your steadiness and develop strong and fast balance reactions at your feet and ankles. You can learn these stability strategies and specific balance exercises that are necessary for avoiding falls by following the direction of a knowledgeable Physical Therapist in the Exercise For Balance DVD.
