Balance Exercises For Karate

Many Basic Balance Exercises Can Be Used For Karate

Karate is a very high level balance activity. When you break it down, some of the same basic balance principles and basic balance exercises used in karate are what we employ with standing and walking.
Here is a quick video on some basic karate balance moves: balance work in karate

Static And Dynamic Balance Exercises

As we saw in the video clip, in Karate an individual must be able to balance on one foot (static balance) while moving the other foot (dynamic balance). Standing on one foot in Karate takes enormous balance and strength. An advanced move in Karate involves being able to stand on one leg while moving, or kicking, the other leg. The amazing reality is that those two balance activities are the foundations of our walking motion. While we walk, there is a point in time when we stand on one foot and we move the other foot forward, preparing to take another step. There are basic balance exercises to improve balance-- both static balance and dynamic balance, which can be practiced by those of us just working on improving balance for walking or by high level athletes like those who perform Karate.
