Active Older Men And Senior Balance Exercises

Senior Balance Exercises For Active Gents

Medical researchers have found that older men who participate in a fitness program that includes strengthening exercises and senior balance exercises are mentally stronger,  healthier and happier. Please see  http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Dr Hideaki Soya from the University of Tsukuba in Japan published a new study, Older men with best fitness perform better mentally, which showed that older men in the best physical condition performed better mentally than less fit men, in a study from Japan claiming to be the first to directly link brain activation with both mental and physical performance. In the past, medical researchers have determined that our physical fitness is reflected in our mental fitness, especially as we get older. As we age, we use different parts of our brain compared to how we functioned when younger. For example, when young, we mainly used the left side of our prefrontal cortex for mental tasks involving short term memory, understanding the meaning of words and the ability to recognize previously encountered events, objects, or people. When older, we tend to use the equivalent parts of our prefrontal cortex on the right side of the brain for these tasks. The  prefrontal cortexis located in the very front of the brain, just behind the forehead. It has roles in executive function, memory, intelligence, language and vision. With tasks involving the temporary storage and manipulation of memory, long term memories and inhibitory control, young adults favor the right side of the prefrontal cortex, while older adults engage both the right and left prefrontal cortex. With aging, we tend to use both sides of the prefrontal cortex during mental tasks, rather than just one. This phenomenon has been coined HAROLD (hemispheric asymmetry reduction in older adults) and reflects the reorganization of the brain as compensation for reduced brain capacity and efficiency due to age-related structural and physiological decline.  Researchers performed tests to demonstrate that higher aerobic fitness is associated with higher left-prefrontal cortex activity. In other words, fitter men tend to use the more youth-like side of their brains, at least while performing the Stroop test (color-word matching). For older individuals, men and women alike, being physically active starts with rehearsing certain senior balance exercises to establish a baseline of needed stability.
